EDIB Strategy launched

Barcud Group has launched its Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Strategy which sets out a commitment to creating a fair and inclusive environment for everyone – whether you live in one of our homes, work as part of the team, or engage with Barcud as a partner or service user.

Barcud is proud to serve and be part of communities across mid and west Wales – communities that are diverse in background, culture, language and experience. As both a landlord, service provider and an employer, Barcud group is committed to ensuring that equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging (EDIB) are at the heart of everything it does.

In launching the Strategy, Catrin Owen, Barcud’s Head of Engagement and Partnerships said, “We believe that everyone, regardless of their identity, background or circumstances, should feel respected, heard and empowered to thrive. For our tenants and communities, this means we will deliver services that are accessible, culturally sensitive and available bilingually. For our colleagues, it means building a workplace where everyone feels welcome and supported, where diversity is valued, inclusion is actively promoted and the Welsh language is respected and encouraged.”

The Barcud group is based in mid and west Wales and comprises Barcud Housing Association, together with Care and Repair in Powys, The Care Society and EOM. As a group it is dedicated to delivering high-quality, affordable housing and services that are financially sustainable, socially impactful and responsive to people’s needs.

The Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Strategy will deliver on four key themes:

  • People and Culture – Barcud will foster a people-first culture that celebrates diversity, promotes inclusion and ensures every colleague and customer feels valued, respected and empowered to contribute to a thriving, equitable community.
  • Homes and Services – Barcud will design and deliver homes and services that are accessible, sustainable and responsive to the diverse needs of its communities, ensuring that everyone has a safe, inclusive and welcoming place to live.
  • Partnerships – Barcud will build strong, inclusive partnerships that reflect and champion its commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging – working collaboratively with communities, organisations, suppliers and stakeholders to create fairer outcomes for all.
  • Data and Insights – Barcud will use data and insights to understand and address inequalities, measure progress and make informed decisions that drive continuous improvement in equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging across all that it does.

Catrin Owen added, “We understand that creating a truly inclusive organisation is not a one-off task, it requires continuous reflection, action and accountability and we will continue to work collaboratively to ensure it evolves to meet changing needs. By embedding equality, celebrating diversity and championing inclusion, alongside our commitment to the Welsh language, we aim to create stronger, fairer and more cohesive communities across mid and west Wales.”
