Twelve members of the Barcud Group team have been training hard in preparation to take on Cardiff Half Marathon next month to raise funds for Wales Air Ambulance.
Jason Jarrams, Phil Dayus-Johnson, Jonathan Evans, Kathryn Botchett, Rhiannon Staley Bronte Jenkinson, Tim Egerton, Emma Cliff, Megan Watkin, Rhodri Beaumont, Keith Evans and Non Edwards are all getting ready to take on the 13.1 mile course around the capital city on Sunday, 4 October 2026.
Jason Jarrams, a Multi Trade Operative in Barcud’s Medra Maintenance team, has a very personal reason for running the Cardiff Half Marathon on 4 October. He will be running his 10th half marathon over the span of the last five years. Cardiff Half Marathon was his first half in 2022 after recovering from a bad RTC in 2014 when the Wales Air Ambulance was present. He wants to raise as much money as possible to give something back to this vital charity.
Some of those taking part have never run a half marathon before including Rhodri Beaumont, a Sustainment Officer with Barcud’s Cynnal Team. Day to day Rhodri, who lives in Cwmann with his wife and two daughters, helps Barcud housing tenants to sustain their tenancies. Phil Dayus-Johnson has also never run before, but he felt this was too good an opportunity to miss to support a great charity. Phil lives in Aberystwyth and day to day is an Independent Living Scheme Co-ordinator with Barcud. Megan Watkin, a Housing Officer with Barcud, who is based in Newtown Powys, has never taken part or completed an organised race before.
On the flip side, Emma Cliff, Service Delivery Manager with Barcud subsidiary Care & Repair Powys, based in Newtown, has run a marathon previously and regularly runs lots of different distances. Non Edwards, PA to the CEO of Barcud Group; Keith Evans, Health & Safety Manager and Rhiannon Staley, Head of Governance, have all already completed Cardiff Half Marathon on previous occasions.
Jason Jones, CEO of Barcud Group, said, “It’s great that a number of our colleagues have agreed to take on this long distance running challenge. We are very proud of everyone doing what they can to help raise funds for our charity of the year. We hope everyone will help us raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause.”
Barcud is based in mid and west Wales. This is the group’s first year of fundraising for a specific charity and at the annual colleague conference last winter the majority were in favour of supporting a charity, that, like Barcud, helped and supported those living rurally.
Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £13 million every year to operate the service and it has to raise all the funds required for the day-to-day running of the service’s vehicles and bases. Each mission costs around £3,545, and the teams have flown over 57,000 missions across Wales since 2001.
Emma Grant, Public Affairs Lead for Wales Air Ambulance said, “Wales Air Ambulance is funded by the people of Wales; we rely entirely on the public’s support to help keep the helicopters flying and the rapid response vehicles on the road. Every penny of the £13 million needed every year is raised through charitable donations, fundraising events, legacies, our shops, and membership of our in-house Lifesaving Lottery.”
