A successful family fun day was held recently by housing association, Barcud and SJ Roberts Construction Ltd to celebrate the near completion of their £7.5 million development of 33 new affordable homes in Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
Local Barcud tenants were invited to have fun, take part in activities, enjoy free food and refreshments whilst meeting their neighbours and getting to know each other. Colleagues from Barcud were also on hand to answer questions, offer advice and have a friendly chat.
Deina Hockenhull, Barcud Group Director of people and insights, was pleased to see so many families attend the family fun day. Deina said, “Thank you to everyone that came along to help us celebrate the completion of our new £7.5m development at Penparcau. Special thanks to the principal contractors, SJ Roberts Construction Ltd, for agreeing to host the family fun day with us. It was great to see young and old enjoying, taking part and getting to know their neighbours. We intend to organise more fun days like this one for our tenants to social together and use the opportunity to talk to our Barcud colleagues, in a relaxed environment.”
RAY Ceredigion held play sessions, Ceredigion Actif brought along tennis and archery equipment for all ages to have a go, Siani Sionc sang and danced with the families, there was a bouncy castle, arts and crafts, as well as free food and refreshments available in the Penparcau Community Hub.

Barcud has transformed the former Piercefield Lane site in Aberystwyth to deliver a high-quality residential development that will provide much needed homes for the local community and will give more people the opportunity to put down roots in their community.
The 33 new affordable homes are nearing completion at Maes Gwenallt, Penparcau, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. The development includes a mixture of one, two, three and four bed houses, flats and bungalows. Residents are currently being selected and will start to move towards the end of September.
A second phase of the development, which will provide a further 16 homes, along with an active travel path linking the development to the Ystwyth Trail, will be completed in 2027.
Mike Sambrook, Managing Director at SJ Roberts Construction Ltd, was delighted to be involved with the family fun day as working with local communities is a vital element of their construction projects. Mike said, “Working with the local communities in which we develop new homes is an important part of how we operate. Early into the build at Penparcau we visited the local primary school to explain to the children what we’re doing, how to remain safe on site and the range of different job roles involved in a development of this kind.”
